The Heritage Houses of the Himalayas
in the Lands of the Thunderbolt, are an association of inns, each
privately owned and managed, all with a common objective in view:
to offer the visitor, through their hospitality, an unique and memorable
travel experience. Each House has its own character and style. Some
are charming old Raj-era inns; others are the homes of well-established
and traditional Himalayan families known through the years for the
warmth of their welcome.
The 'Lands of the Thunderbolt' properly refer to Sikkim and Darjeeling
District in India, to Tibet and to Bhutan - but, in the interests
of travel management, Nepal is also included in the expression.
For the average traveller, these lands may appear remote and somewhat
intimidating even while intriguing. For the adventurous, the lure
of faraway places with strange sounding names is the reason for
planning a journey to these lands. Whatever the circumstances, the
Heritage Houses aim to give the traveller an intense and unforgettable
experience of the Himalayan region: of the lands and people; the
food and drink; the sights and sounds.
Windamere is the original Heritage
House of the Himalayas.
